How can meditation enhance your life?
In The Practical Neuroscience of Buddha’s Brain, Rick Hanson cites these benefits of meditation compiled from various studies:
- increases gray matter in the insula, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex
- reduces cortical thinning
- improves psychological function (attention, compassion, empathy)
- increases activation of left frontal regions (lifts mood)
- decreases cortisol
- strengthens the immune system
What does this mean?
You will be healthier, happier, more focused, and more equipped to handle the curve balls life throws you!
Our brain has the ability to be retrained. Our ingrained negativity bias does not have to be the ruler! As Rick Hanson says, our brain acts “like Velcro for bad experiences but Teflon for positive ones.”
I have pain with sitting. Can I still participate?
Absolutely. One of the meditations is performed in standing for those who experience pain with sitting. In each meditation, I encourage you to assume a position of comfort.
Will this 7-Day Kick-start produce a huge shift?
No, but it is a great start. The fruits of meditation can be gleaned any time that you take time in your day to pause. A more robust and consistent practice will continue to create more neurological changes over time.
