Mindfulness and Yoga for Pain with Interstitial Cystitis Evaluation: An RCT

Authors A Dao, KV Meriwether, T Petersen, S Jansen, Y Komesu

A study was conducted to determine if the addition of yoga and mindfulness to the standard treatment for women with interstitial cystitis painful bladder syndrome showed improved outcomes. (Note: IC affects all genders, but this study was looking specifically at cis-women.)

The group that used the yoga and mindfulness programs in addition to the standard care showed faster improvement during the clinical trial. Additionally, there were decreases in anxiety, depression, pain interference and pain scores.

This was an exciting finding for me and validates what we see clinically. As a pelvic floor physical therapist I have been using yoga as an adjunct modality to my patient care for several years, predating my first pelvic yoga video in 2011.

Here are the two yoga videos I designed for this study. If you find these videos helpful, I would love to hear from you! If you are interested in more resources, we’d love for you to join us over in our membership site, Pelvic Wellness Circle.

Enjoy!
